Arthritis
Arthritis is a common affliction that effects . Those that suffer from it describe it as the most intolerable and inhibiting pain that one could ever feel. It’s like constantly having someone punch you in the arm and despite your cries that they stop, it never ends…
The primary symptoms of arthritis include joint pain, but that’s not the only symptom that an arthritis sufferer may be afflicted with. In fact, since arthritis is a result of inflammation in the body, it’s a compounding disease, meaning if left untreated, it can lead to even more diseases down the road.
Most Frequent Types of Arthritis
The most well-know form of arthritis is Rheumatoid Arthritis (commonly called RA), but that doesn’t mean it’s the only type. In addition to RA, there is also:
- Lupus
- Fibromylagia
- Gout
All of which can be just as painful, if not more painful, than RA.
Though the majority of folks suffering from arthritis are 65 or older, arthritis can actually effect people of all ages -even children. In fact, nearly two-thirds of people with arthritis are younger than age 65 years of age. Arthritis is also more common prevalent in women (24.3%) than men (18.7%) of every age group, and it affects members of all racial and ethnic groups. Additionally it is more common among adults who are obese than among those who are normal weight or underweight.
Arthritis is Bordering on Becoming an Epidemic
An estimated 50 million U.S. adults (about 1 in 5) report doctor-diagnosed arthritis. As the U.S. population ages, these numbers are expected to increase sharply. The number of adults with doctor-diagnosed arthritis is projected to increase to 67 million by 2030, and more than one-third of these adults will have limited activity as a result. In addition, a recent study indicated that some form of arthritis or other rheumatic condition affects 1 in every 250 children.
What Can We Do To Reverse the Arthritis Epidemic?
First of all, I think it’s important to realize that arthritis can be prevented… It has been proven that diet and exercise has a lot to due with illness development. Eating foods high in antioxidants, or at least taking high antioxidant supplements can help to a large degree. Additionally, it’s important to realize that prescribed medication is not the only way to reverse the damaging effects of arthritis. There are natural forms of arthritis pain relief that can address the root of the problem- the inflammation build up in the body, as opposed to just the pain symptoms of arthritis.
